The interface is interactive - you can view videos and other media filtered or sorted by discipline (STA, DYF, DNF, CWT, CNF, FIM, NLT), by a keyword, by a competitor, location, language, author, publisher, year, and many other criteria. Almost each database entry comes with a list of related media. You can access details about the competitors, the author, and much more information.

The Media Base contains not only websites and media in English, but also entries in many other languages (i.e. French, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Dutch, Czech, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and many others). You will find here the most complete collection of freediving links for many other countries - often several times longer than on popular or official freediving portals of the respective lands.

The database is being permanently updated and enhanced. If you are the author of any freediving related website or media, do not hesitate to add it to the database. Being listed here will greatly improve its exposure, and it will also improve its search engines ranking. You are, of course, also welcome to add 3rd party links and media. You can also edit present records - correcting or completing data, adding keywords or language versions, etc - just click on the "edit" link at the top of the pop-up card of the media you wish to modify.

On the web, there are a number of programs for the training of static apnea tables available. You can find them listed in the Software category of the Freediving Media Base. However, Apnea Training Manager goes beyond the functionality offered by other programs - not only it allows you to run interactive hypoxic and hypercapnic tables, it also offers a great choice of other freediving static, dynamic, depth, and theory exercises, full training sessions (containing multiple tables or exercises), or even entire courses or yearly training plans. You can run the exercises in real-time for dry training in front of your PC, but you can also print them out and take them to the pool.

If you founded a team for your local club, you can greatly improve the planning and management of your training sessions - simply select appropriate session, adjust the level for each respective group of freedivers (or even individuals) according to their performance, and print it out. And of course, you can add new exercises, or edit the present ones as much as you wish.

This feature is ideal for managing local freediving clubs, associations, or even national branches of federations, for planning training, or running freediving courses. Not only it is very dangerous to dive alone, but it also makes more fun sharing your passion with fellow souls. When traveling, and often even in you home location, it may be difficult to find a buddy for your next diving trip.

You can have a look at the User Map - there are hundreds of experienced freedivers registered on APNEA.cz, and the interactive map makes it easy to locate the closest ones. You can click on the red markers to get closer info about the respective freediver, and you can contact him or her through a Private Message after clicking the envelope icon in his Profile. Markers without the white stripe belong to members with a hand adjusted position, hence possibly pointing directly to their house. There is also a text version - the User List. You can filter both the list and the map by country - just enter the name of the country in the search box.

But the Freediving Hosting feature of APNEA.cz offers more than just the user map. Registered members who have a good possibility to accommodate guests, and especially who are indeed enjoy doing so, can select the hosting option in their User Profile. You can see the list of hosting freedivers both in the form of a text list and a graphic map. The advantage of this list (in comparison to usual member lists of freediving forums) is that you can be pretty sure that the respective member likes receiving guests, and that he or she is an experienced freediver (who passed the strict APNEA.cz test). In the same time, for the same reasons, the host will be better assured when getting a request from an APNEA.cz member than if contacted on a common public freediving forum, where there may be often people not knowing anything at all about freediving.

In each country, there are many more freedivers in the ATM database, but many of them were not accepted because they did not meet the high standards APNEA.cz sets for the applicants (freediving safety theory test, age limits, and accordance to the terms and conditions). You can view them and their locations too - by selecting the mode "all" near the search box.

We bring each day up to several hundreds of news alerts. You can read, and search the news directly on this front page, or you can subscribe to the RSS feed, using your favorite RSS reader, your browser (look for the icon in the browser toolbar), your email reader, or you can import our freediving news onto your Google home page - on this page, click the Google button next to the news block you are interested in.

You can filter the messages by language, source origin, category, or a keyword, and receive so RSS alerts only for topics or regions that interest you.

I started to post about diverse unusual fins and propulsion concepts on the DeeperBlue.net forum, but since older posts and images often get lost there, and because this website offers better possibility of formatting and maintenance, I placed my collection together with the contributions of other DB members here too.

It includes diverse unusual bi-fins and monofins, hand fins, animal-tail shaped fins, and even some very odd propulsion systems like for example the Aqueon, or an underwater bicycle.

After launching the APNEA.cz website in May 2007, it became surprising but apparent that the percentage of failed attempts of the Apnea Training Manager registrations is quite high. Many freedivers, amazingly also many upper level competitors among them, had problems passing the registration quiz. The quiz was written to avoid letting people with no or low knowledge about risks in freediving using the Apnea Training Manager and possibly harming themselves.
